The junior football club formed in 1972 with three teams U10,U13 and U15, At that time Alf Lacey was president and Jen Armstrong was secretary/club treasurer. Club stalwarts John Coggins and Laurie Riley were involved coaching the teams. The juniors were known as the “SparrowHawks” and the U10 in their first year won a flag under John. The players from that time played in Boronia VETS last season.

In 1980,there were approximately 4 or 5 teams in what was the Knox Junior Football Association(KJFA). During that time, the KJFA was incorporated into the Eastern Districts Football League (EDFL) later to become the E.F.L. Dave Benson won a premiership coaching the U14 in 1981 and Laurie Riley won a premiership in 1990 coaching the U15.

During the mid 1980’s the club had a lean patch, only being able to field three teams due to large family numbers moving away from the Boronia area to Knox Wantirna areas as the population grew. In those days 2 or 3 players were invited up from Auskick to play in the Under 10 each week, to give them experience of competition football and get the families inducted into our great football club family community.

The U10 was fiercely competitive and to quote Laurie Riley “had some interesting and entertaining” games during that period. As we moved through the 80's into the 90’s the club started to get back young families into the Boronia suburbs, as it became affordable for people to live here.

In 1989, the club decided to expand the member’s boards and the club created the Life Member’s board after the Kimmitt Family for their services to the club. Also the Best and Fairest Board was added to the President’s board.
Some of the famous names that started their playing careers at Boronia are:
  • Adam Heuskes - Brisbane, Port Adelaide
  • Chris Curran - Collingwood
  • Rayden Tallis - Hawthorn
  • Adam Slater - Richmond
  • Matt Larkin - North Melbourne
  • Peter Brown – St Kilda
  • Mick Passmore - North Melbourne
  • John Holt – North Melbourne
  • Brendan Mutimer – North Melbourne
  • Robert Peach – Richmond U19
  • John Cieslak – Richmond U19
  • James Ross– Eastern Ranges First Premiership
  • Rodney Church – Eastern Ranges First Premiership

The junior club today fields ten teams and has once again formed a close bond with the senior club, focussing on developing our junior players, through the guidance of our committed coaching staff, into effective young senior players.

Hopefully in the future, we all look forward to seeing some of these young aspiring stars rise into the ranks of senior A.F.L.
